Content Strategist

BM Production β€” Content / Creative Production

Department:

Content / Creative Production

Reports To:

Content Head / Production Manager

Location:

Hybrid

Employment Type:

Full-Time

About the Role

BM Production is looking for a Content Strategist to own content strategy and quality across client accounts β€” from creative direction through final delivery. The role owns every judgment call in the production pipeline: what gets briefed, what gets approved, and what goes out the door. Execution, scheduling, and administrative coordination are supported by a dedicated Virtual Assistant, freeing the Strategist to focus on strategy, creative quality, and client relationships rather than logistics.

This role replaces the previous Coordinator/Creative Strategist structure, which combined strategic and administrative work in a single position. Responsibilities have been split by function: the Content Strategist owns direction and quality; the VA owns scheduling, tracking, and admin. See the RACI summary at the end of this document for the full breakdown.

Key Responsibilities β€” Pre-Production

β€’ Client Strategy: Lead client onboarding meetings and define the content strategy and creative direction for each account.

β€’ Creative Briefing: Author shoot briefs, storyboards, moodboards, and scripts β€” the creative direction for every shoot, not just logistics.

β€’ Calendar & Planning: Develop and own the quarterly content calendar and campaign plan aligned to client and business goals.

β€’ Vendor & Location Approval: Select and approve freelancers/vendors and final shoot locations for each job (VA sources options and handles booking logistics).

β€’ Requirement Setting: Define and communicate exact shoot requirements to clients and creators, and review briefs before they go out.

β€’ Budget Ownership: Set and track the budget for each shoot/campaign against the client quote.

Key Responsibilities β€” Production

β€’ Execution Oversight: Oversee shoot execution against the approved brief β€” the quality gate during production, whether on-set or via check-ins.

β€’ Problem Solving: Manage delays, client change requests, creator/vendor availability issues, and last-minute revisions without compromising quality or deadlines.

β€’ Contingency Planning: Build and apply contingency plans for high-risk shoots or campaigns.

β€’ Scope Control: Approve any on-the-fly creative or scope changes directly with the client.

Key Responsibilities β€” Post-Production

β€’ Quality Review: Review every edit against the original brief and brand standard before it reaches the client β€” own the quality bar.

β€’ Revisions & Approval: Manage client revision rounds through to final sign-off.

β€’ Delivery & Handoff: Coordinate final asset handoff to clients and marketing teams in the correct formats and platforms for publishing.

β€’ Performance Reporting: Track and report on content/campaign performance post-publish to inform the next cycle (VA can pull raw platform data).

β€’ Retainer Growth: Own retainer renewal conversations and rebooking β€” this is a relationship and growth motion, not admin tracking.

β€’ Licensing & Rights: Ensure usage rights, licensing terms, and freelancer contract clauses are tracked and honored for delivered content.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

β€’ Act as the connective tissue between creative, production, and client-facing teams.

β€’ Direct the Virtual Assistant's execution work β€” scheduling, reminders, tracking, admin β€” ensuring nothing drops between strategy and delivery.

β€’ Coordinate with clients, photographers, videographers, editors, and account managers to ensure smooth execution.

Continuous Improvement

β€’ Stay current on content formats, platform updates, and industry trends; apply new tools and process improvements to live projects.

Coordination quality with clients, creative talent, VA/support staff, and internal teams

Requirements

β€’ 2–5 years of experience in content strategy, production coordination, or content operations (agency/production house background preferred).

β€’ Strong understanding of content formats across platforms (social, digital, video).

β€’ Experience managing shoot logistics and working with creative talent (photographers, videographers, editors).

β€’ Excellent project management and stakeholder communication skills.

β€’ Ability to multitask across multiple client accounts and manage shifting priorities.

β€’ Familiarity with content calendar/project management tools (ClickUp, Trello, Asana, Notion, or similar).

β€’ Comfortable delegating execution work to a VA and managing that relationship β€” this role directs support staff, it doesn't do their job for them.

Good to Have

β€’ Experience with client-facing communication and account management.

β€’ Basic understanding of editing workflows and creative production timelines.

β€’ Relevant certifications in content marketing/strategy.

What This Role Is Not

  • This is not the previous Coordinator/Creative Strategist role with a new title. Scheduling, reminders, admin/file organization, and routine status-chasing are VA-owned. If a candidate's strongest skills are administrative rather than strategic/creative, they are better suited to the VA role, not this one.
