Technical Writer /Technical Illustrator – UAS

  • Location: Brisbane
  • Commitment: Three days per week on-site
  • Duration: Initial 12-month engagement, with potential extension
  • Clearance: Baseline clearance

  • Indicative rate: $900 per day inclusive of superannuation, ex GST


About The Opportunity

Business Review Group is seeking an experienced Technical Writer / Technical Illustrator to support a Brisbane-based client delivering unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) capability. The position will develop, illustrate, publish and maintain technical documentation supporting UAS operations, maintenance and training.

Initial tasking will focus heavily on generating technical illustrations. The successful candidate must therefore offer practical illustration capability as well as strong technical writing and publications experience.

The role

Working onsite with engineering, logistics, production and quality stakeholders, you will translate technical source information into accurate, controlled and customer-ready publications. You will own documentation through development, review, acceptance and ongoing maintenance, ensuring it remains accurate, compliant and aligned with customer expectations.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain technical publications and associated illustrations for UAS operations, maintenance and training.
  • Produce flight manuals, user manuals, maintenance manuals, training guides and theory-of-operation documentation.
  • Create technical line drawings, schematics, exploded views, illustrated parts breakdowns and other supporting graphics.
  • Develop troubleshooting and testing procedures, together with removal and installation instructions.
  • Prepare written content and illustrations from engineering drawings, technical data and subject-matter input.
  • Generate illustration concepts, draft artwork and publication-ready graphics.
  • Manage publications through drafting, internal review, customer acceptance, release and ongoing revision.
  • Update documentation following design changes, engineering updates, customer feedback and operational lessons.
  • Identify and resolve gaps, inconsistencies and ambiguities in source information.
  • Conduct peer reviews to confirm technical accuracy, consistency and compliance.
  • Support customer reviews and implement required amendments and corrective actions.
  • Maintain publication libraries, revision records, source files and controlled technical data.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, logistics, production, quality, training and project teams.
