Pay Range: $38.02 - $55.18 per hour

Summary
The person in this role is an integral member of the RUSH Department of Marketing Communications, responsible for identifying story ideas and developing compelling content. This person is expert in storytelling that is compelling and successfully engages key stakeholders to support RUSH’s mission and strategic business priorities.
The senior content strategist will lead multiple projects, including content for social and owned media and work collaboratively with colleagues across Marketing Communications, clinical services areas, Philanthropy and other key stakeholders across RUSH to accomplish defined objectives. The content strategist must exemplify RUSH’s mission, vision and values; act in accordance with RUSH policies and procedures; and embody a commitment to RUSH’s continued growth.

Required Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; preferably in English, journalism, marketing or a related field.
- Five to seven (or more) years of writing experience, preferably in marketing communications. Health care experience a plus.
- Ability to work with clients and internal colleagues to promote content strategy that aligns with RUSH’s mission, business objectives and user needs.
- Excellent writing, editing, copyediting and proofreading skills.
- Ability to convey complex ideas in creative, easy-to-understand ways.
- Experience writing, editing consumer web content and with search engine optimization.
- Experience working collaboratively with other professionals to complete projects in a timely manner.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; must be comfortable interviewing people at all levels of the organization, including senior leadership.
- Maximize the use of available information to make data-informed decisions; incorporate data visualization into message development and deployment strategies.
- Contribute to department-wide culture of collaboration, integrated program planning, processes, shared tools and problem-solving by facilitating cross-team initiatives that leverage individual contributors, help ensure employee engagement, ownership of work and a high level of productivity.

Preferred Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, brand strategy, organizational development or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities
Content strategy
- In collaboration with the director of content strategy and social media, drive implementation of a unified content strategy for RUSH.
- Lead elements of updates to RUSH’s content strategy work, including unifying approach with e-newsletters and social media; offering more tools for storytelling including app and podcasts; ensuring content hub is aligned with RUSH brand.
- Align content and goals with RUSH’s mission, business objectives and user needs.
- Help clients identify and meet their communications objectives.
- Use data to support content development recommendations and make recommendations on the best channels for distribution of that content.
- Serve as content strategic lead for mission and business priorities, service lines, RUSH University and other stakeholder groups, as assigned.
- Manage all aspects of the content process: research, writing, production, distribution and evaluation.
Reporting, writing, editing, video, podcast
- Develop, write and edit stories, social media posts, web copy and other content consistent with RUSH’s strategy.
- Manage some of the day to day functions of content strategy team in coordination with director of content strategy and social media.
- Interview sources and conduct research as needed.
- Carefully collect and process source input or approvals as needed.
- Assist with shooting video and photos to tell stories for RUSH.
- Lead efforts and implement new podcasts for RUSH tied to strategic goals — in collaboration with creative services team and others in marketing communications.
- Creatively and strategically develop content to attract patients and the public to help achieve marketing and communications goals and objectives; create graphic links, change image source, change text.
- Focus on strategic service lines, other stories as assigned.
- Regularly do story prospecting with key stakeholders, leaders from assigned beats.
Brand and editorial style management
- Align all content creation with the brand positioning strategy of RUSH.
- Edit copy from other RUSH departments as needed in accordance with editorial standards.
- Proofread and edit colleagues’ copy and accept edits and other feedback from colleagues as part of a collaborative effort to achieve the best quality content.
Publication and project management
- Serve as project manager or managing editor on publications (both online and print).
- Coordinate photo or video shoots as needed, and work with graphic designers and other members of the marketing team.
- Communicate feedback to freelance writers assigned to various projects.
Effectiveness Measurement
- Assist with monthly and quarterly evaluation and measurement reports for content strategy to illustrate achievement of ongoing goals
- Contribute communications content to the monthly Marketing Reports of the Department of Marketing and Communications.
Interdepartmental support
- Work efficiently and effectively with members of the department across communications functions, sharing copy, source interviews, etc.
- As a member of the marketing communications team, assist on other department projects as requested.
