Senior Technical Writer

TECHNICAL WRITER III | AEROSPACE | S1000D / XML

Experienced Technical Writers: if you have a strong background creating technical documentation for complex aerospace, aircraft, or space systems, this could be a great opportunity to put that experience to work.

We are looking for a Technical Writer III to work closely with engineers, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams to develop and maintain technical documentation for highly advanced systems.

What you'll do:

• Work directly with subject matter experts to understand complex systems and translate technical information into clear documentation
• Develop and maintain operations and maintenance manuals, supplements, procedures, test documentation, and related technical publications
• Use engineering drawings, block diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, and CAD models to develop accurate documentation
• Support S1000D and XML-based technical documentation
• Support CDRL preparation and documentation planning
• Lead recurring internal and external documentation review meetings
• Incorporate feedback from engineering, program management, and other technical teams
• Verify documentation meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience
• Create and maintain documentation templates, layouts, graphics, and production resources

What we're looking for:

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and typically 6+ years of relevant experience
• Strong knowledge of technical writing principles, practices, and standards
• Experience with S1000D and XML
• Advanced Microsoft Word skills, including document publishing and formatting
• Experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
• Experience with Adobe publishing tools, including Adobe FrameMaker
• Experience producing technical documents containing graphics, tables, and embedded content
• Experience working within multi-disciplinary engineering and development teams
• Ability to develop documentation with limited input from subject matter experts
• Strong editing, formatting, layout, and document production skills

Highly valued:

• Aerospace, aircraft, or space industry experience
• Experience with technical manuals and operations manuals
• Experience with test plans and procedures
• CDRL experience
• Experience working from engineering drawings, schematics, and CAD models
• Experience developing documentation templates and layout guides
• Experience with technical data libraries, training materials, and process/procedure guides
• Experience supporting proposals, RFP responses, and other technical business documentation
