Mid-Level Scrum Master / Technical Writer

Position Summary:

Sapient Logic is seeking a Mid-Level Scrum Master / Technical Writer to support a DoD mission systems program in San Diego, CA. This hybrid role combines Scrum Master responsibilities with technical writing and documentation support for engineering and software development teams.


The ideal candidate has experience facilitating Agile/Scrum activities while also developing clear, accurate technical documentation. The candidate will work closely with software developers, systems engineers, cybersecurity personnel, product owners, and Government stakeholders to coordinate team execution, track technical work, remove impediments, and develop and maintain program and system documentation.


Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Scrum Master for one or more engineering or software development teams, facilitating daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Coordinate sprint activities, track commitments, identify impediments, and work with team members and stakeholders to resolve issues affecting delivery.
  • Maintain Jira boards, sprint backlogs, dashboards, action items, and other Agile project-management artifacts.
  • Work with Product Owners and technical leads to develop and refine epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, tasks, and priorities.
  • Track team progress, dependencies, risks, and milestones and communicate status to technical and program leadership.
  • Support Agile planning and continuous improvement activities to improve team execution and delivery.
  • Develop, edit and maintain technical documentation supporting software, systems, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and integration activities.
  • Create and maintain technical documents such as system administration guides, installation and configuration guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), deployment procedures, test procedures, release notes, and user guides.
  • Work directly with engineers and developers to capture technical processes, system configurations, interfaces, workflows, and operational procedures.
  • Translate complex technical information into clear documentation appropriate for technical, operational, and program stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain technical diagrams, process flows, architecture illustrations, and other supporting documentation using tools such as Visio, Draw.io, or similar applications.
  • Manage documentation in Confluence, SharePoint, GitLab, or other program repositories and ensure documentation remains current with system and software changes.
  • Support technical reviews, engineering meetings, demonstrations, and program status meetings by capturing decisions, action items, risks, and follow-up activities.
  • Assist with preparation of technical briefings, presentations, status reports, and other program deliverables.
  • Collaborate across software, systems, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and test teams to ensure technical activities and documentation remain aligned with program objectives.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Communications, English, or a related discipline.
  • 4+ years of relevant professional experience supporting Agile software development, systems engineering, technical programs, or technical documentation.
  • Experience serving as a Scrum Master or supporting Agile/Scrum teams.
  • Experience facilitating Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Experience using Jira and Confluence to manage Agile workflows, technical documentation, and team collaboration.
  • Demonstrated technical writing experience within software development, IT, systems engineering, cybersecurity, or another technical environment.
  • Ability to interview engineers and technical SMEs and translate their knowledge into clear, structured, and maintainable documentation.
  • Experience developing technical procedures, user guides, system documentation, process documentation, or similar technical deliverables.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple activities, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively across multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the DoD security clearance required for the position.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), SAFe Scrum Master, or equivalent Agile certification.
  • Experience supporting DoD, Navy, or other Government software and systems engineering programs.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance or higher.
  • Familiarity with software development, DevSecOps, systems engineering, cybersecurity, or IT infrastructure environments.
  • Experience with GitLab, GitHub, or similar source-control and DevSecOps platforms.
  • Experience documenting APIs, software interfaces, system architectures, infrastructure configurations, or deployment processes.
  • Familiarity with Agile metrics, dashboards, velocity, burndown charts, and other methods for tracking team performance and delivery.
  • Experience developing diagrams and technical illustrations using Visio, Draw.io, Lucidchart, or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with Markdown, YAML, JSON, or other structured documentation formats.
  • Experience supporting technical reviews, demonstrations, test events, releases, or system deployments.
  • Familiarity with DoD technical documentation standards and configuration management processes.
