Work you'll do

As a Manager, Clinical Documentation Specialist working with the Life Sciences & Health Care (LSHC) industry practice you will be responsible for leading client engagements that improve clinical documentation quality, support regulatory compliance, and strengthen reimbursement and quality outcomes.

• Lead clinical documentation improvement assessments, documentation reviews, and regulatory compliance analyses across inpatient service areas.
• Direct teams in evaluating medical records, diagnoses, treatments, and follow-up documentation to identify gaps, support coding accuracy, and improve reimbursement and quality outcomes.
• Develop and deliver education programs for physicians, clinical documentation improvement teams, health information management teams, and ancillary staff to improve documentation standards and adoption.
• Interpret clinical, coding, reimbursement, and quality analytics, and present benchmarks, trends, risks, and recommendations to physician leaders, executives, and other stakeholders.
• Manage client relationships, project workstreams, and team members to implement documentation improvement action plans, track progress, and report program outcomes.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in nursing, medical degree, or physician assistant degree; current clinical licensure in the applicable discipline
• Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) or Clinical Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) certification
• 7+ years of experience in acute inpatient settings and clinical documentation improvement, utilization review, case management, health information management, coding, or physician advisor functions, including experience leading teams, workstreams, or client engagements
• Experience reviewing inpatient medical records and electronic medical record platforms (e.g., Epic, Cerner, etc.) to identify documentation gaps and support coding accuracy, regulatory compliance, and reimbursement
• Experience using clinical documentation, coding, and quality metrics, including Medicare Severity Diagnosis Related Groups (MS-DRG), All Patient Refined Diagnosis Related Groups (APR-DRG), patient safety indicators, hospital-acquired conditions, present on admission indicators, and risk adjustment measures
• Prior consulting, advisory, or multi-client engagement experience, preferably within a professional services or healthcare consulting environment
• Experience with physician query practice, denials and appeals, DRG validation/reconsideration, or payer (e.g., RAC, OIG, commercial) audit support
• Ability to travel up to 50%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
  
  

Preferred:

• Master's degree in Clinical Informatics, Business Administration, Nursing, or another health field
• Case management or medical coding certification, including Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based (CCS-P), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Case Manager (CCM)
• Experience as a registered nurse, physician, physician assistant, case manager, clinical documentation specialist, utilization review professional, informatics nurse, quality professional, diagnosis related group validation professional, or health information technology professional
• Experience with Medicare reimbursement, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification/Procedure Coding System (ICD-10-CM/PCS), Inpatient Prospective Payment System, APR-DRG, MS-DRG, or hierarchical condition category assignment
• Experience in quality measurement, quality improvement, value-based payment models, charge capture reviews, or coding compliance reviews
• Experience managing programs or projects for technology implementations using third-party software, or process excellence methods such as Lean or Six Sigma

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $122,000 to $240,500.

You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
