Knowledge Management Specialist


Full-time telework — work from anywhere in the U.S.


The Knowledge Management Specialist researches and compiles technical data for use in documents such as manuals, articles, job aids, templates, procedures and specifications supporting a federal civilian program. The Specialist analyzes project requirements to determine the publications needed, gathers information through independent observation, consultation with technical staff and review of published materials and drawings, and ensures the accuracy and completeness of technical documentation. The role participates in layout and manual organization and follows specifications such as DoDAF and IEEE and professional writing standards such as AMA, APA and CSE styles. This role may be mentored by senior Technical Writers.


Responsibilities:



  • Work with internal teams and subject matter experts to build an in-depth understanding of the content, product and documentation requirements.

  • Analyze existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and single-sourcing opportunities.

  • Study drawings, announcements, specifications, mockups, test sites and product samples, and meet with product designers and developers.

  • Use graphics such as photographs, drawings and diagrams to increase end users' understanding of the system.

  • Translate development requirements into required documentation changes, adhering to CMMI Level 3 process requirements.

  • Proof documentation to detect and correct errors in spelling, grammar, syntax and established styles and standards.

  • Analyze project requirements to determine scope of work and required documentation products, and apply overarching policy requirements so every product complies.

  • Determine the needs of end users and produce technical documentation that is clear, concise and comprehensible.

  • Gather usability feedback from customers, designers and manufacturers.


Requirements:



  • Associate's degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

  • 1-2 years of experience in technical writing, documentation or knowledge management.

  • Excellent command of English grammar, style and editing.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat Professional.

  • Experience with desktop publishing tools from Adobe and Microsoft.

  • Ability to translate technical and functional requirements into clear, audience-appropriate documentation.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fully remote, distributed team environment.

  • US Citizenship and the ability to pass a federal background investigation in order to be granted access to sensitive information.


Compensation: $71,800 - $90,000 per year
