San Francisco, CA | Full-Time | $160,000-$180,000/yr
About the Role
A seed-stage, generalist venture firm based in San Francisco is hiring a Content Lead, Writing and Video, to work with and report to the Head of Communications. The firm works with technical founders across sectors including AI, agents, robotics, defense, bio, space, and crypto, providing support in areas like product-market fit, go-to-market strategy, hiring, PR, and content.
The ideal candidate has startup and tech experience and can take complex, technical subject matter and make it clear and compelling without stripping out the substance. This person understands how attention and ideas spread online, how to optimize content channels, and how to tell founders' stories in writing and on video. The role involves publishing content across the firm's blog, video channels, podcast, newsletter, and social platforms, as well as collaborating with a social media freelancer and managing freelance videographers. This is not a camera operator role. It is about crafting story, writing, and directing the shoot.

- Owning the monthly founder newsletter end to end: collaborating with the platform team on launches, talent, events, and news; drafting event and training recaps; conducting short founder interviews; writing, building, and sending each edition
- Coordinating portfolio launch posts, podcast write-ups, cross-posted content, and original trend and analysis pieces for the firm's blog that showcase the firm's perspective and portfolio across thesis areas
- Creating content that feeds the social media freelancer managing YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, and TikTok
Launch Videos
- Scripting launch videos in coordination with company launches, working closely with the Head of Communications
- Helping schedule videographers, scouting locations, storyboarding, and creating shot lists
- Running shoot days, directing and coaching first-time spokespeople on camera, and catching problems in the moment
- Owning the edit and turnaround, timed to each company's PR launch
Programming Support
- Helping shape talks and trainings in collaboration with communications and community leadership; contributing topic ideas for founders
- Turning events into content by planning for the full event lifecycle: before, during, and after
Growing Reach
- Building the podcast's reach through clip strategy and audience development
- Segmenting content for different audiences (founders, broader tech community)
- Bringing ideas for building an audience around original written content in the firm's investment sectors
Qualifications
- 4+ years of recent, hands-on experience in content, writing, and some video production (candidates with fewer years who believe they are a strong fit are encouraged to apply)
- Strong writing skills with comfort going deep on complex, technical subject matter for a smart audience without oversimplifying (journalism background a plus)
- Knows what looks and sounds good on camera and video, and can coach others to deliver it
- Has owned and grown a content channel such as a podcast, YouTube, social account, blog, or newsletter
- Previous experience working with startups and/or founders
